Since March 2024 Michael Barbe is designated coordinator of the DGN (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Neurologie) S1-guideline 'Neurogene Sprechstörungen' (neurological speech disorders). The aim is to update the guidelines in cooperation with Prof. Dr. Wolfram Ziegler,  Dr. Anja Staiger and Dr. Theresa Schölderle.

Michael T. Barbe (since summer 2019) and Tabea Thies (since autumn 2023) joined the MDS Study Group on Speech and Movement Disorders which is a newly formed, international and multidisciplinary group investigating all aspects of speech, communication and swallowing difficulties of patients with movement disorders. Recently, Michael T. Barbe took on the role of co-chair.
